Apples was an orphan that grew up in the streets and lived her life
by stealing and escaping using her nimble body to her advantage. She
would crawl and escape through narrow passageways and sewers to travel.
She then meets a surgeon witch after stealing an important ingredient, an
ogre eye, for her project. As she runs away from the witch, she accidentally
merges with the eye. The surgeon witch then takes Apples in after seeing her
potential as a surgeon witch and trains her in the arts of cell manipulation magic.

After a couple of years, Apples wants to repay her debt to her teacher and decided to
try a witch competition that has prizes of the rarest ingredients. The competition
was a fighting match between golems controlled by their creators. Apples then hunted
animals and monsters to assemble her golem. She used the legs of cave trolls, compiled
muscles of goblins to create short arms, a river crocolisk’s head, and an ogre’s body
merged with the crocolisk’s jaw. She named the creature Chunks, mostly cause of its
random-like outward appearance.

After training with Chunks, Apples enters the tournament
to claim the rare ingredients. She endures match after match until she finally ends up in
the finals. As she gets ready, she is claimed to be under the suspicion of breaking the witch
code of infusing a philosopher’s stone into a golem. Even though she tried to prove her
innocence, Apples is claimed as a fugitive by all witches and to be executed immediately by
law. Chunks and she escaped the tournament realizing the competition was rigged by a powerful
group. Now, Apples and Chunks wander as fugitives and earning allies to prove their innocence.
